Bula everyone.

May be flight tomorrow? May be flight Sunday? May be not;-). I know it is very hard these days to come and visit us in the North, but please bear with us!! Pacific Sun has problems with their small Twin Otter aircraft, so they cannot fly straight to Taveuni from Nadi most of the time and are flying Nadi-Suva-Labasa with their ATR 72.

So here is the best way of getting to us:

Try to get on the ATR to Labasa

then bus or taxi to Buca Bay and we will pick you up from there.

Please try to let us know if the flight is cancelled or late.

If you have NOT booked your flight yet, please let us know and we will try to book you on Island Hoppers.

Vinaka

Have a safe trip! It will be an adventure, but well worth it!;-)

Have you ever wondered about the giant squids? For sure, you have seen a horror movie or have seen a series about them on National Geographics. Cecil, our fisherman, usually gos deep sea fishing and brought back a huge Mahi Mahi. AND it had giant squid marks all over its body! It was amazing to see! Well, we do not usually see them when scuba diving and that is good;-) but it is also nice to have it in the back of your mind that they do exist and that there is more to life in the ocean than what we see when we are snorkeling or swimming. it also serves as a reminder that there is still much to explore!

For a couple of days now we have had fairly rough weather, our typical trade winds coming in, but nevertheless, we went out for some beautiful dives. Lucky we did, after a memorable dive at the Fish Factory, you will know why it is called that after you have been there, we went to our second dive site, Jerry’s Jelly, which is my personal favourite dive site. There is just something about the ever changing reef, the Big Napoleon Wrasse policing the reef with their constant companions, the colour changing Emperor Fish. very often we also see 2 Blue Ribbon Eels peering out of the same hole;-). Of course we also have about 5 resident White Tip Reef Sharks which hang out there. They are females as we discovered when they were pregnant last year. About 30 minutes into the dive the reef slightly curves and the current will take you to the back side of the reef. This is quite an adrenalin rush when the current is a bit stronger. Any way, it is not the season, but we were rewarded for going out in strong winds by the appearance of a Manta Ray, slowly going into his somersaults, scooping up food!

Absolutely amazing and I could sit there watching them for hours! Can’t wait for them to come back in November when the season starts.

This is the week with 5 new PADI Open Water divers and 4 newly certified Advanced Open Water Divers! It was very busy between the actual dives, 2 DSDs, new students and Advanced students, night dives and lying in the hammock. However, evryone was amazed at how nice the coral are, even right off the beach in front of the resort. The turtle came up to say hello and check out the new divers, the baby black tip reef sharks came to inspect everyone and our house reef octopus shook is tentacles at everything;-). Since we had different Nationalities with different languages, we could make good use of Roland teaching in German, well Swiss German;-) , Wilson and Manasa in Fijian and Zoe in English, while I was monitoring everything from my beach mat;-)

I know many of you now are spoiled, not everyone gets to do their deep dive at the white wall, but we encourage you to keep on diving and move forward to the next level.

The Somosomo Strait, not only famous for soft corals and also called the soft coral capital of the world, it is also famous for trade winds, and they were here today, making another dive on the white wall, very, very nice. The soft corals actually need current to open up and they were open today.

Annie’s Bommie’s as the second dive, white tip reef sharks, loads of tropical fish everywhere like in a aquarium and of course soft corals while the current gently took us around the bommies.

Then a hot shower, and a delicious lunch in the open air restaurant and then – you guests it – a nap in the hammock since it was not beach weather! Not bad for a magic day!
